NEW: Kinetic African Dance Class


Join Intisar Abioto in this high energy dance class as she breaks down & builds upon traditional West African dance & FutureModern African diasporic movement vocabularies.

Intisar will guide you in technique, improvisation, and imagination as powerful tools for awareness, power, and presence in our hearts, minds, and bodies. We will seek inspiration in sounds, movements, and texts from the multiple histories-present/s-future/s of the African diaspora to move ourselves dynamically into the present. This class is appropriate for all levels.

Bio: Intisar Abioto is a dancer, writer, photographer, and explorer from Memphis TN. Her arts training began early through her mother’s fantastical tales, the sound of her father’s kalimba-sax-flute-djembe-congas-bylaphone-etc, and the collective guidance of a vibrant extended family of artists, dancers, actors, documentarians, activists, and historians.

Intisar explored storytelling and multimedia at The Putney School in Vermont, Spelman College in GA, and Wesleyan University in CT where she received her BA in dance in 2009. She is co-founder of The People Could Fly Project & Flier Arts Magazine.
